08.20.14

This Sunday, August 24th is the NYC Traffic Jam. This is one of the most unique events in the Northeast. Held on Governers Island, you need to take the ferry over. Unfortunately if you are just hearing about this for the first time, you need to pre-register because [limited room on the ferries], I believe the event is sold out. But wait, you can attend without your car [it's free] and enjoy the event. Besides the show there is a lot more to do on the island and it's a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. You can find ont more by going to the event website.

07.09.14

We have a very busy weekend coming up.. First, on Saturday July 12th is the Deutsche Classic in Oley PA. Although this is an all German cars show, with some fine examples of vintage Porsche, Mercedes and a few other unique German iron, there is a big turnout of vintage VW's. A great location and a great show, this is one not to miss.

On Sunday, July 13th is our own CJVWS/FCB Show-n-Shine at Foreign Car Werks in Bound Brook. This is an all-free event. Free Food, free Drink, Music by DJ Chris and about 100 of the finest vintage VW's in the area. It's a kick back VW party. The show is very casual and a lot of fun. We have some awards that we pass out, these are club choice awards that a few of us wander around the event and mark down the cars that catch our eye. They could be a stunning restoration or custom, or maybe a simple driver that has a style all of it's own. So it's not a formal show, just some fun and we take a moment to recognize a few cars.
Come on by, have some burgers or hot dogs and hang out with a bunch of other VW nuts.

06.22.14

Happy Worldwide Day of the Beetle! This is a special day commerating the birth of the VW Beetle celebrated all around the world. Yes, it's that time of year, and the season is kicking off with a big bang this year. First, on Saturday April 26th, it's Volksfest. This is brought to you by our friends in HAVOC, the Harrisburg Area Volkswagen Club. Formerly in Campbellwotn, it's now held at the Mount Hope Estate in Manheim PA. A beautiful venue and a great show. The second show is Raceway Park's VW/Audi Show-n-Go in Englishtown, NJ. A great show, great swap and some great racing on in one fun filled day. So polish up your rides for one heck of a weekend. If you are at Etown, make sure you stop by the CJVWS tent for your free 2014 VW Show and Event calendar magnet. Perfect for your fridge or tool box [or both!]. Supplies are limited so stop by early.

01.26.14

10.06.13

We are trying to wring the last bit of the season out before winter comes and things really start to slow down. Hopefully the next couple of weekends will hold you over for awhile.

Transporterfest is on Sunday Oct 13th in Brookline Mass. I know it's a bit of a schlep but other than the Gathering, it's one of the best Bus events in the northeast. Check out http://larzanderson.org/events/lawn-events/2013-lawn-events/transporterfes/ for more details.

Something a little more local our club has been invited down to VW of Freehold on Sunday Oct 13th for a big open house. They will have a little show, food, music and I'm sure a lot of VW fun.

09.23.13

Wow, despite Mother Nature's threats, the ninth annual All Air-Cooled Gathering turned out fantastic. Camping on Saturday was beautiful, we had about 150 people show despite the threat of rain and although it did get a little wet late Sat night, it just showed how hard core VW campers can be. On Sunday we had about 300 cars, down a little from last year but I attribute that to the folks that have a little mositure fobia. For those who threw caution to the wind, that gamble paid off with blue skies and 70 degree weather. The swap was hopping, the cars were stunning, the valve cover racing was energizing and even though the South Jersey Volkswagen Club was a no-show for the Dub Push, a new club from Maryland stepped up and did one heck of a job pushing a Bus!

Overall it was another fantastic All Air-Cooled Gathering. Mark you calendar for September 20th and 21st, 2014 for our 10 year anniversary, it's gonna be epic.

09.15.13

We are just a week away from the All Air-Cooled Gathering [Sept 21st and 22nd]. Just got back from our annual pre-show scouting party and the Swim and Sport Club looks great. We are gearign up for another fantastic show. If you havent' been before, the only regret you'll have when you leave is that you missed eight other great shows. Check out the show website for more details, specifically click on the Special Events tab on the top to see some of the things we have planned.

08.20.13

One of my personal favorite shows is coming up next Sunday. The VW Lovers of NYC are having the third installment of their NYC Traffic Jam on Governor's Island. This is a truley unique event. Because no cars are normally allowed on the island, you need to make advance reservations and there are only so many cars allowed. If you haven't registered, then you are out of luck this year, but mark this down as a must see event. Governor's island is a beautiful location, you can rent bikes and cruise around the island, there are historical tours you can take, great food [and a beer garden!] or you can just kick back and take in the views of Manhatten and the Statue of Liberty. If you are interested in checking it out this year, you can [just not with your car], the ferry ride is free for pedestrians so come on down. Be sure to mark it down on you calendar for next year. One tip though, like the rockstar event it is, reservations usually get snapped up in the first 36 hours so you can't delay. You really don't want to miss this next year.

08.14.13

The Lehigh Valley Dutch Dubbers are having their VW Fest again Saturday at Young VW in Easton PA.. This is a great little kick-back show, weather is looking swell so it should be a wonderful wayn to spend a saturday afternoon. A bunch of CJVWS members will be there so it must be a great show!

07.30.13

Another event you don't want to miss is DVG's Long Island Air Raid coming up this weekend, August 4th, at the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale [Long Island] NY. This is either the third or fourth year and our Long Island brothers put on a pretty good gig. Well worth the quality time you'll spend on the belt parkway. It'll be held on the opposite side of the airport from where it was held last year, I'm sure it's going to be a spectacular event.

07.08.13

The CJVWS Show-n-Shine in Boundbrook isless than a week away. I believe thsi heat wave should be breaking this weekend so it shoudl eb a spectacular show. This event is a lot of fun, I hope to see a lot of you there.

06.25.13

Lookign for a weekend of VW fun, July 13th is the Deutsche Classic in Oley PA and on July 14th is he CJVWS Show-n-Shine in Boundbrook. Our Show-n-Shine is one not to miss. It's an all free event held at Foreign Car Werks in Bound Brook NJ. Besides free admission, there is free food [burgers, dogs, salads, chips, etc] free drinks [soda, water], live music and some of the areas best rides. We typically get about 100 cars and it's really a laid back party. We do have about a dozen club choice trophies, but not your typical judged show, so it's anyone's guess who might go home with an award. It's all fun, come on out for a great time.

06.14.13

Summer is in full swing, shows are happening practically every weekend, to keep on top of the events, got to our events page and download the schedule from the bottom of the page. This will keep you on top of all that is happening in the VW world in and around New Jersey.

05.28.13

The Greenwich Concours d' Elegance is coming up this weekend in Greenwich CT. Although this is a prestigious event, attended by some of the finest automobiles in the northeast, it isn't necessarily on our radar [not VW specific]. This year however we got a blip! CJVWS Member Bob Cropsey was invited to display his '67 21 Window Bus. The same bus featured on the All Air-Cooled Gathering poster a few years ago. Kudos to Bob. The event has just starting to recognize Volkswagens and their importance to the automobile world [and collectors] and we are proud of Bob in being one of the first to get that recognition. If you are not doing anything this weekend, specifically Sunday when the "international" vehicles will be featured, come on up and show your support. I'd also like to throw in that friend of the club, Chris Vallone has also been invited to the event. This will be Chris's second time in as many years representing our marque. Congrats to Chris as well.

05.13.13

The Dutch Dubbers Spring Cruise-In isthis Sunday May 19th. This is an excellent event held at America On Wheels, a great little car Museum in Allentown, PA. I've been goign to this for years and it's a really nice, low-key event. Your $10 admission includes entry to the museum [a bargain in itself!].

05.13.13

Granny Grose's Buses 9 is coming up this weekend [5/16-5/19]in Millmont PA. There will be Mountain Pies by the fire, Bocce Ball, Kid's activities including a ScavaBushunt, Saturday Potluck breakfast, Door Prize for each Bus, and good times with great friends!! Check out the link on our Events Page for more details.

04.25.13

The Paul Goerz Memorial Mustache Ride and Kamp-out! is coming up in a little less than two weeks [May 4th]. A 35 mile cruise through the backroads of central/northern Jersey ending at the Long Valley Brew Pub for lunch. Last year we had about 30 cars on the cruise and I wouldn't be surprised if we doubled the turnout this year. Paul Goerz was a gem, a member of ours who was taken to soon. We are taking this day to celebrate the man and his mustache for a fun little event that I'm sure he'll be with us at every turn. Check out out the thread on our forum for more details or the event webpage

04.16.13

We had a great turnout at Englishtown this past weekend. Some awesome showcars and the swap was bigger than ever. Seems like every show it's gettign bigger, specially the spring show. I guess everyone is cleaning out their spares from their winter builds. If you missed it, there is always the show in the fall.

04.10.13

Englishtown's Spring VW Classic Show-N-Go is this weekend on April 14th. The weather is looking neart perfect so that means the swapers will be out and the show will be full. 03.26.13

Well, the temps are gettign warmer, the snow has melted and spring is in site. That means Englishtown's Spring VW Classic Show-N-Go is right around the corner on April 14th. CJVWS will be there in full force to welcome in the 2013 show season. Looks liek it's gonna be another great year for the club. 11.30.12

This is our slow time of year, with the temps dropping, volks are tucking away their cars for teh winter or starting winter projects. It's been one heck of a year, with the loss of a few members and the effects of Sandy, I think we wil all be looking forward to the new year.

11.05.12

Well our power has been restored, Sandy didn't beat us. We may be a little worse for wear, but overall we were lucky. Many club members have checked in and it seems that most everyone is ok. It will be a special Thanksgiving for sure.

10.23.12

Although not an air-cooled event, it's hard to beat the Coolwater Fall Colors Cruise coming up in a couple weeks on Nov 4, 2012. It starts and ends at the Sussex Fairgrounds and there will be food, t-shirts and raffle prizes. It's a 60-90 mile cruise through some of New Jersey's most scenic roads. A bunch of CJVWS members will be there supporting the air-cooled contingent. Come on out for probably one of the last local events for 2012. Check the thread on our forum for more info.

09.21.12

No rest for the wicked! This Sunday, September 23, is Raceway Park's Fall VW Show & Go. A great event with an even better swap. Come on by to see some sweet show cars, kick-ass racing and pick up a few things for your winter build. Although a few weeks early this year, CJVWS will be there in full force.

09.18.12

Definitely one for the books. The dust has settled, and the positive reviews have come pouring in. The eight annual , All Air-Cooled Gathering was an astounding success! Our best event to date. Everything ran smoothly, events like the Valve Cover Racing, Dub Push and all the kids activities added to the record number of air-cooleds in attendance [323]. Our trophies were a big hit, the swap was bigger than ever and the weather couldn't have been better. We had over 200 campers on Saturday and Jeff Taylor's band rocked the night away. We have really built something here we can all be proud of. Thanks to everyone who attended and those who helped, it's because of you this is becoming the best show in the northeast.

09.12.12

The All Air-Cooled Gathering is this weekend. We are all prepared and the weather is looking great. Come on out to one of the best shows in the Northeast!

09.06.12

Come spend an all air-cooled VW weekend at the pastoral setting of the Swim and Sport Club of Flanders, New Jersey, for the eighth annual All Air-Cooled Gathering. Just one great event after another, on the heals of the Long Island Air Raid, the Connecticut Bug-A-Fair is coming up on this Sunday, Aug 12th in Terryville CT. 08.01.12

Hey Volks, our brothers out on the Isle of Long are having their second annual Long Island Air-Raid. Last years event was a blast at Port Jefferson and this year I'm sure will prove to be even better because it is being held at the 56th Fighter Group Restaurant at the Republic Airport in Farmington NY. I'm really lookign forward to this one and I hope to see a bunch of you out on the island!

07.17.12

Fantastic turnout despite the threatening weather for our Show-N-Shine. Again we had about 100 cars and over 400 people show up for a day of sweet VW's , great food and good music. Big thanks to Billy Egenton and the crew at Foreign Car Werks for opening up the shop for the event.

This is an all free event, free food, free drink, live music, club choice awards and a whole lot of fun. We typically get about 100 cars and have a really good time. This show is quickly becoming a favorite with the hard core VW crowd.

Dripfest is this Saturday, June 1st and 2nd in Spring Mountain PA. It startsFriday with overnight camping and the show on Saturday. 05.26.12

Have a fantastic Memorial Day and join the Central Jersey Volkswagen Society as it honors our servicemen and women at the Scotch Plains / Fanwood Memorial Day Parade. Unfortunately I've got some more bad news, Richie Borchers, one of our founding members passed away from a heart attack yesterday. Richie has been in the hobby for years, well know for his vintage collection and his outrageous Bug Zilla Monster Beetle, Richie loved them all.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and feelings about Richie in our "In Memoriam" topic on our club forum

There will be a service for RIchie on Monday, March 19th at the Higgens Home for Funerals in Plainfield. RIP brother.

03.12.12

Spring has sprung and folks are gearing up for another spectacular season. If you are looking for the latest on what is happening in the local Air-Cooled scene, look no further than our Events page. All the dates are in for 2012. Unfortunately three of our favorites [NYC Traffic Jam, PunchBuggy and Bugs and Buses by Barnegat Bay.] will not happen this year. However there are a few new shows that are showing a lot of promise like DVG's Long Island Air Raid which will be a must attend event in August.

Check out the line-up this year and make sure you click on the link at the bottom of the page to download a handy PDF version of the list that you can print out and tape to you fridge or tool box. Also, if you are at Englishtown in April, make sure you stop the CJVWS tent and pick up your free event magnet that has all the Events listed on our Events page.

The CJVWS Holiday Party was a huge success, our biggest one yet with over 90 in attendance, we couldn't fit everyone in the room. We will need to figure out something new for next year. Food was excellent thanks to the folks at the Chimney Rock Inn, and our annual auction had some lucky folks go home wiht a few bargains. A great way to kick off the new year.

01.18.12

Well, the temps are starting to drop, Volks are settling in for those long winter projects, and I myself am about to embark on a new powerplant for the '69. A dropped valve seat forces me into a dilemma. Freshen-up the top-end of the 1500, or bite the bullet and build something bigger for my little runabout. We'll see what pops up at Englishtown in the Spring!

10.28.11

Yikes! Snow in October! I guess it's tiem to get an early start on those winter projects, it looks like we will have plenty of winter this year to work on them.

10.21.11

The CoolWater Fall Colors Cruise is this weekend. It’s a charity event that’s a 75+ mile drive through some of the most beautiful back roads in New Jersey. It’s a huge cruise, hundreds of cars. Although mostly water-cooled, there is always a decent air-cooled contingent. So if you are looking for a spectacular way to bring in the fall, this is it.

10.13.11

Raceway Park's Fall VW Classic Show-N-Go is this Sunday, October 16th. Gates open at 8am, CJVWS will be there in full force, managing the swap and the air-cooled show. Come on down to pick up a few parts for that winter project. It's the last big local show in the northeast and the weather looks like it's gonna be great.

10.01.11

The Slowriders Slam and Slumber Party is coming up on the 8th. It will be the last year at this location and a new location has not been found so don't miss it. This is a great event put on by a great bunch of guys. A lot of fun for the whole family.

09.22.11

The Alll Air-Cooled Gathering was fantastic, the best weather of the summer and the crowds weren't disappointed. Lots of great cars, an even bigger swap this year and a lot of new things for the kids to do. Watch our Even Pics section for a bunch of shots from this years show to see what you missed.

09.11.11

The Alll Air-Cooled Gathering in Flanders is this coming weekend. This is the premier event in the northeast. If you only go to one event a year, it must be this one. If you haven't been, you have no idea what you are missing. Check out the event website to get a taste of what it's all about.

09.07.11

Dubs on the Boards in Wildwood is this weekend, if the weather holds out, it should be another great day. I'm gonna shoot to make it. Hope to see a few other members down there.

08.19.11

Punch Buggy at Atco Raceway is this weekend. The weather looks like it's gonna be clear and the new location on the oposite side of the track should provide a little more shade from the sun. The South Jersey Volkswagen Club is doing a bang up job with the show and we are lookign forward to coming down again as spectators and participants! See you all there!

08.14.11

The NYC Volkswagen Traffic Jam was a blast. Travis and crew produced a well managed and unique event. Everything was perfect. You couldn't ask for a better day. This will definetely be added to my must attend list for next year. We've posted a bunch of pictures from the event as well as pictures from quite a few other events like the Long Island Air Raid, Bugs and Buses at Barnegat Bay, the VW Classic in California, the Litchfield Bug-in, and even a few pics from the Bachman Cruise, a club only event held a few weeks ago. If you missed soem of thsie events, check 'em out and see what you missed.

08.10.11

What a busy summer it's been, one great event right after another and this coming weekend is no exception. On Saturday, a very unique event will take place on Governors Island in the New York Harbor. It's the second Annual NYC Volkswagen Traffic Jam! A limited attendance event, if you haven't registered, you can attend for free, but you cannot show your car. Besides seeing some nice VW's, there is a quite a lot to do on the island. Come on out, and show your support for Travis who has worked so hard to put this event together. If that wasn't enought, On Sunday is the 20th Annual Connecticut Bug-A-Fair in Terryville CT. This is one of the northeasts premire VW events. Always a good show, and one of the best swapmeets. Whis me luck, I'm gonna try to do both!

08.08.11

DVG did a fantastic job at there first event, the Long Island Air Raid Considering the spotty weather, they still had about 50 cars that showed. Kudos to DVG for pulling off a very classy event!.

08.02.11

Our Long Island brothers, Der Volks Grupe [DVG] are having their first event, the "Long Island Air Raid" in Port Jeffrerson, Long Island. Located in a picturesqe little seaside town, the event should be a good one. Lets all pray for good weather!

07.26.11

This weekend is Bugs and Buses at Barnegat Bay! I believe this is the eighth year John Pickens has been putting on this show. It's a great little gathering on the beach and across the street there is an arts and crafts fair with good food, and alot of stuff for sale you really do not need! So you can go swimming, shopping, or just hand out with a bunch of other VW nuts. A perfect way to spend aSunday afternoon.

07.14.11

We had a fantastic time at the Show-n-Shine. We had about 100 of the area's finest VW's on display, the weather was perfect, the the food was tasty. What more could you ask for.

07.04.11

Happy 4th of July! If that wasn't enough to celebrate, next weekend is the Deutsche Classic in Fleetwood PA on Saturday and our own Foreign Car Werks Show-N-Shine in Bound Brook, NJ on Sunday. Both are fantastic events, go to them both if you can, but if you can only go to one, then come to the show-n-shine, it's free [admissino and food] and it's fun! Ok, I'm biased ;^)

06.28.11

Did you see the recent Barrette-Jackson auction last weekend? A '63 23 window, sunroof bus sold for $218,000 [with auction fees]. I saw this bus in person a few weeks ago at the Classic in California. It was truely and exceptional vehicle but who would have thunk it would have sold for so much. You can check out a few pics on the listing at Barret-Jackson or a video of the actual auction on Speed Chanel.

06.16.11

The Classic out in California was great, If you haven't been, put this on your list of things to do next year. The amount and quality of these cars is unreal. If you are lookign for inspiration, this is the place. Check out some of the highlights on our Event Pics page. Don't forget that the Litchfield Bug-In is coming up this Sunday in Harwinton CT. This is one of the best shows in the northeast.

06.07.11

One great show after another, The Lehigh Valley Dutch Dubbers Spring Cruise-In at America on Wheels in Allentown was a blast, besides a cool turnout of VW's, the Museum had this great display of vintage "Dragsters of the Northeast." But if that didn't do it for you the real life cars from the Disney movie "Cars" were on hand to taking pictures with everyone. There had to been more than a thousand people there waiting to get their pic taken with Lighting McQueen, Mater and the new character, Finn McMissile [he's a British spy]. The big kid in me was in awe! Next up this weekend is Granny Grose's Buses in Beaverton PA and then we got But-Out in Manassas VA coming up on the 29th. So fire up your old dub and come on out and have some fun.

05.05.11

Excellent turnout at Volksfest, this show is the one to watch [besides the All Air-Cooled Gathering in September], this Saturday however is a great little event out in Allentown, PA.. The Lehigh Valley Dutch Dubbers Spring Cruise-In will be held again at the America on Wheels Auto Museum. This year the life size versions of the characters from the Disney Movie "Cars" will be there. I've been to this event a few times in the past and it's great. The museum is relatively new and has a fantastic collection of cars on display. Besides the visit form the Disney Cars, I understand that their current exhibit is of "Dragsters of the Northeast" so that alone should be worth the trip. Check out our events page for more details and other upcoming events.

04.15.11

The weather held out for Show-N-Go and although the show was a little light, the swap was packed. Best swap in years. Speaking of great swap meets, Volksfest [formerly in Campbelltown] is coming up on the 30th. Their new location at the Mt Hope Estate and Winery in Manheim PA.is going to make Volksfest even bigger and better. Last years swap was huge, a must attend event if you are looking for great deals. Mark you calendars and check out our events page for more details.

Wow, the All Air-Cooled Gathering was fantastic. The weather was perfect, crowds were big, and everything went off very well. We had about 300 cars and 1300 spectators, our biggest event yet. The Klub Kompetition was a little bigger with the South Jersey Volkswagen Club taking the "Koveted Kup" home with them again this year. Congrats! More kids games, more music, NJ 101.5FM, and alot of fantastic improvements to the campground and the facility made this event the best one yet. Come on out and to the event of the season.

08.25.10

Not long ago I came across a company that is making an truely creative VW product. Volksbaggin makes bags, coin purses, key fobs and check book covers all out of original VW interior material. Guys, these are a perfect gift for your wife or girlfriend. I bought a matching bag, coin purse and keyfob for my wife Vicki that all match the interior of my '69. She loves them! But guys, don't feel left out, they are in the process of producing men's wallets and a host of other new accessories. They are also making bags specifically for Volkswagen that you can find on their Driver's Gear web page. Take a look, they are pretty cool.

08.17.10

This year is really shapping up to be a banner year for the air-cooled scene here in the northeast.

This is one of the northeast’s top shows and it always attracts a good crowd. Another option is the Hippie Shop “Summer of Love” car show in Fairfield NJ. Although this isn’t a VW specific show, there is usually a pretty good turnout of Volkswagens. Summer is speeding by so get out there and have some fun with your VW.

Fantastic palaces like Jay Leno’s to well designed and appointed spaces like Bob’s. It’s a new magazine and it’s only been out a year. You can pick it up at Borders in Bridgewater, but it took me a little searching to find it. It was cleverly hidden in the home and garden section. You can also subscribe by going to their website.

Maple Grove had planned on holding another VW event in it's place but recently decided to pull the plug because conflicts with the Pittsburg event. Maybe they'll be back next year, but for now, Maple Grove is off the list. It's always good o check our NEWS page and EVENTS section to find out the latest about what is happening in the local VW scene.

Thanks to all those who have been participating lately, you are what makes this club so much fun. Also, a special thanks goes out to Alan Tenanbaum. It’s really sweet. Look for it at the club tent at E-town.

Wow, what a show, I hope you were there to see history in the making. Probably one of the most idyllic settings for a VW event, the All Air-Cooled Gathering, despite threatening skies, was a tremendous success. Well over 200 people showed with nearly 100 cars, we couldn’t ask for more. We raised a significant chunk of change through the generosity of our sponsors and our participants. With storms all around us, keeping many more people away, we were spared any significant rain except for a bit on Saturday night. Mark my words, this will soon become the must attend air-cooled VW event in New Jersey if not the whole north east. Give me a couple days and I'll post some pics on the Event Pics section of the site.

Now you can buy or sell cars and parts, and sign-up or renew you membership on-line. We are also updating the Members page with current pics and brief bios so you can learn a little more about your fellow club members. There will also be an on-line Newsletter. The articles are coming in so if you have something to contribute, e-mail you article to me. Much of the new site is in progress so check back often to see it's progress.
